About the volunteering opportunity
The aim of the "Bildungsbrücke" project is to bring students in the final years of their education into contact with citizens who have volunteered their time, thus creating mentorships. With their professional and life experience, the mentors support and accompany the students in the transition from school to training to work. Especially young people who cannot get the necessary support from their close social environment are the focus of our work.
Your Tasks
You accompany pupils of the 9th or 10th grade until they start their apprenticeship. You help with the preparation of application documents or provide assistance in the search for an apprenticeship. But also the promotion of independence and support in the development of key skills are essential tasks of the mentors.
What's needed
- first work experience
- Empathy
- Communication skills
- Patience
- Pleasure in working with young people
Time required
Within the framework of a 1:1 mentoring, you have the opportunity to individually and flexibly adjust the amount of time with the student. Experience shows that our mentors invest an average of about 2 hours per week in their voluntary work.
Important notice
- For this task we need a police extended certificate of good conduct. We can issue you with a certificate for the application.
- You will be prepared for working with the young people in a full-day introductory workshop.
- During the entire mentorship you will be supervised and supported by the project coordination.

The RUHRWERKSTATT is a non-profit association. Independent of party politics and denominations, we have been working since 1977 to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity for personal, professional and cultural development. In doing so, we assume social responsibility, take sides and make needs and social injustices public. We interfere with a critical view of social conditions and thus make a contribution to social justice.
