Support us in the conservation of bats and their habitats

We work on a voluntary basis every day of the year to preserve bats and their habitats.

We nurse injured bats back to health in an infirmary and then release them back into the wild.

We also campaign for specific conservation measures and advise people on ways to protect bats. In this context, we also take part in various events with information stands and children's activities.

For schools, we have information boxes with lots of information about bats for different age groups available to borrow, so that species conservation in particular can be included in environmental education. Of course, we are also happy to visit schools and kindergartens in person to inform children about bat conservation.

There is also a lot going on behind the scenes, for example there are various craft activities, logistics, outreach trips, field work and participation in bazaars, internet campaigning. Organization, demos and much more.

The work of the BUND Bat Center Hanover is diverse and there is always a lot to do. 

Your Tasks

We are looking for volunteers for the following areas:

• Public relations
• Bat care
• Reintroductions
• Field work (currently only offered to biologists)
• Crafts (currently no need)
• Logistics
• Outreach trips
• Children's activities
• and much more.

What's needed

Requirement is a minimum age of 18 years. 

No previous knowledge is required, everything can be learned with us.

Important: For the care work with the animals, a training period of several months is required. In addition, a cooperation at least once a week and participation in the AG meetings (about 12 a year) is a prerequisite. A short-term assistance in animal care can unfortunately not be made possible for reasons of quality assurance of care. 

Please note that the area of animal care is not barrier-free. Participation in events is conditionally barrier-free, depending on the venue. 

Your commitment is certainly worth its weight in gold! Therefore, an occupational health and safety instruction takes place at the beginning of the activity as well as once a year. Participation in the instruction is a prerequisite for the cooperation. 

Time required

The volunteering times are flexible. You can commit yourself once a year up to daily for the bat protection.

The cooperation directly in the animal care requires a minimum commitment time of about 3 hours per week, because in the animal care a high quality and continuity must be ensured. 

Important notice

We are in the use - each day - honorary! 

We engage ourselves in the daily use around the year honorary for the receipt of the bats and their habitats.

In an infirmary we maintain injured bats healthy and poach them afterwards again.

Furthermore we advocate concrete protection measures and advise humans over protection possibilities for bats. In this context, we also participate in various events with information booths and children's actions.

For schools, information cases with a lot of bat information for different age groups are available for loan, so that especially also the protection of species finds its place in environmental education. Of course, we are also happy to come personally to schools and kindergartens and inform the children about bat conservation.
