About the volunteering opportunity
As a volunteer language mediator at TranslAid, you will support refugees in various counseling sessions and appointments. Language mediators are of great importance for all people who are new to Germany and do not yet speak much German. They create the prerequisite for the refugees to understand the entire conversation and to be able to make self-determined decisions on the basis of it.
Your Tasks
As a language mediator, you will interpret between German and refugees’ native languages during various counseling sessions and appointments. Among other things, we arrange assignments in the following areas:
- Individual counseling sessions
- Visits to government offices
- Doctor’s appointments
- Written, non-certified translations
We are currently looking for language mediators for Dari, Farsi, Arabic, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Russian, among other languages.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.

You can flexibly determine how many assignments you would like to take on. On average, an assignment lasts 60 to 90 minutes. Participation in an introductory event is a prerequisite
