About the volunteering opportunity
Start with a Friend e.V. (SwaF) is a non-profit association with 23 project locations nationwide. Our vision is a society that lives its diversity. To achieve this, we create personal encounters between people with and without an immigration history. Through exchange and joint commitment, we strengthen people, social cohesion & democracy.

Start with a Friend arranges tandem friendships between people with and without an immigration background. It is especially important to us that we meet at eye level, so that everyone in our community feels comfortable and friendships can develop.
Your Tasks
To make this even better, we are looking for people who want to
- get to know lots of different people
- Bring people together in tandems and support them with questions
- Organize events for a diverse community
- To further publicize Start with a Friend and expand our network
You can get involved in the following areas of the team:
The matchmaking team
The matchmaking team
- Conducts intake interviews with interested parties who would like to start a tandem
- Organizes the information evening for new locals
- Looks together to see who is a good fit for a tandem
- Arranges contact between the tandem partners
- Supervises the tandem and is there if the tandems have any questions
The event team
- Organizes a community event at least once a month
- Organizes a regulars' table once a month
- Keeps in touch with the community and ensures there is plenty of swaf spirit
The PR team
- Makes Swaf better known in your city
- Takes care of media contributions
- Starts collaborations
- Organizes information stands and pitches

For this volunteering opportunity, intermediate German skills are required.
Otherwise, no previous experience is necessary. Our team welcomes every new team member with open arms - shape the society we want to live in.

Where?
Start with a Friend e.V.
Start with a Friend connects immigrants and locals in tandems based on interests and needs. Ideally, a friendship develops out of this, but in any case, a social network is created that makes it easier for immigrants to have a good start in Germany. Start with a Friend accompanies and advises the tandems after the matching and organises events to bring the tandems into contact with each other. It is also important to us to create structures in which people can get involved, even if they are tied up in their work and family life. The time schedule is therefore flexible; further training courses are offered but are optional. So far, Start with a Friend is available in 21 cities nationwide.
