About the volunteering opportunity
We are looking for mentors for families, children and young people who need support. Mentors of the Kinderschutzbund are personal caregivers for children, adolescents and families who have only been living in Germany for a short time and/ or are threatened or have reached their limits due to difficult life situations. Through the mentorships, the young people and families experience trust, interest, appreciation, the promotion of parent-child bonding or the advancement of their education. The mentors visit the children, young people or families once a week over a period of about one and a half to two years. The mentors work on a voluntary basis and are bound by confidentiality. They are trained in preparation and receive professional support.
Your Tasks
Each mentorship is based on the needs of the individual:
- spend time with the children
- help build a social network
- assist with educational issues
- address practical life issues
- help improve opportunities for education and training
- encourage the development of an independent personality
What's needed
Empathy, tolerance and openness, willingness to reflect and fun in contact with children and young people
Time required
The timing of the assignment can be arranged with the mentor families themselves and is not prescribed.
