Support to preserve valuable biotopes and their biodiversity

Our BUND local group Braunschweig is in charge of numerous different biotopes in the region, which are regularly maintained by us. We have been carrying out our biotope protection work for over 40 years now (since 1979) and since 1982 we have been active every Friday. The long experience, the ongoing commitment and the mix of some very knowledgeable experts in our team are paying off: At these sites many rare and protected species could develop well and show a stable population over the years. Thus we make an active and direct contribution to the preservation of biodiversity.

Your Tasks

• We mow rough pastures and orchid meadows and carry off the mown material,
• remove cane rash and young shrubs to prevent the bush encroachment of rough pastures,
• build and maintain fences to support extensive cattle grazing,
• selectively promote endangered plant species
• maintain nesting boxes u..v.m.

At the end of a mission there is coffee, cake and cozy get-together. In good weather, there is often time to admire the beauty of the biotopes and to let our experts explain the different plant and animal species.

What's needed

To participate with us, however, no special knowledge is required: Anyone can join us! Our biotope conservation work is supported by the dedicated efforts of many volunteers and we are very grateful for all who are active with us.

Time required

We meet every Friday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Occasionally we have Saturday morning outreach scheduled.

How often you want to support us (twice a month or a year) is up to you.

Important notice

Of course, the current Corona regulations also apply to us.

Instructions on occupational safety are distributed in writing to new employees at the beginning and must of course be observed.

Since we do not have a fixed meeting place, but always changing locations, we have created a distribution list for volunteers, in which we can include you if you are interested. About this chanel you will then always be informed in advance, where we meet next time.

The BUND group Braunschweig engages itself above all in the practical nature protection in approx. 25 biotopes in Braunschweig and environment. In addition, we take a stand on interventions in nature, e.g. on development plans,  bring us to politics and administration on environmentally relevant issues and cooperate with schools in the field of environmental education.
