About the volunteering opportunity

Environmental education and awareness work are important tools for sustainable species conservation - because as a rule, we only protect what we know. Therefore, the AGA is also present, among other things, at events such as sustainability fairs, action days and markets with information booths and their lively and interestingly designed exhibitions. We introduce small and large visitors to threats to biodiversity and the global ecological, social and economic interrelationships and show motivating approaches to how each of us can contribute sustainably to the protection of endangered species.

For the supervision of the information booths, we are looking for support from motivated, species conservation interested, nice people in the area of Munich.

Your Tasks

Together with 1-2 other helpers, you will be in charge of our information booths and exhibitions at various events such as sustainability fairs, action days and markets in the Stuttgart, Ludwigsburg and/or Munich area. If you already have experience in the areas of environmental education, nature conservation and species protection, that would be great, but it is not a prerequisite. Of course you will receive a briefing and all the important information you need

What's needed

Volunteers must be native German speakers.

What you should bring:

  • You come from the Munich area, or can take care of information booths there.
  • You want to actively engage in nature and species conservation and environmental education.
  • You are sociable, open and have a desire for enriching, "enlightening" conversations.
  • You have time mainly on weekends.
  • You are mobile, optimally you have a car available to transport the fair utensils if necessary.
  • You can help with the construction and dismantling of the information booths and exhibitions.

Time required

Regularly
Approx. 16 hours per month.

It's usually weekends when you're asked to help with the info booth. The number of events per month is variable, sometimes there is only one, sometimes several dates per month.

Where?

Aktionsgemeinschaft Artenschutz (AGA) e.V.

The Aktionsgemeinschaft Artenschutz (AGA) e.V. has been committed to the conservation of endangered animal and plant species and their habitats for 30 years. The AGA is internationally active to promote the protection and conservation of nature, to increase environmental awareness and to prevent the destruction of the basis of life of humans, animals and plants.

In order to be able to implement its projects sustainably, the AGA works together with competent local partner organisations worldwide. The AGA's projects include, for example, the protection of sea turtles threatened with extinction, the rearing of elephant and cheetah orphans or the protection of brown bears in Romania and foxes in Germany. In order to develop effective and scientifically based protection measures, the AGA also carries out basic research. For example, research is being conducted into the distribution areas of koalas and penguins in order to better protect them there. With constructive conservation concepts the AGA contributes to the solution of existing human-wildlife conflicts, for example by using guard dogs to protect the cheetahs. By designating protected areas and tree planting campaigns, the AGA also works to preserve the habitat of endangered species.

In order to raise awareness of endangered species and their habitats, the AGA produces extensive exhibitions with appropriate teaching materials, which can be borrowed free of charge. More information can be found at www.aga-artenschutz.de/umweltbildung.html
