Where?
Permafrost & Pleistocene Stiftung gUG
The permafrost is thawing and at the same time releasing vast amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. We are currently the first and only European organization that has set the protection of permafrost as a goal. The most efficient way to do this is through the Pleistocene Project. The Pleistocene Project is a nature-based rewilding approach in which herbivores (bison, reindeer, ...) are reintroduced to permafrost areas. The restored ecosystem has a cooling effect on the permafrost soils, which will thus remain with us for the time being, preventing greenhouse gas release.
