With bärenstarken mentoring, mentors accompany a child for a jointly determined period of time, usually for one year. Once a week, mentors and mentees undertake various activities together, which can range from solving school assignments together, playing educational games, to visiting the swimming pool, taking a walk in the park, and baking cakes. The children learn self, social and daily living skills and broaden their horizons. Many of these activities are undertaken by the children for the first time in their lives. Learning from a role model, someone with more life experience, combined with their own trial and error, not only provides the opportunity to learn for life, but also to mature as a person.
As a mentor, you will accompany a child between the ages of 6 and 14 and support his or her personality. For a good accompaniment you keep a mentor diary, which serves for reflection and statistical purposes. Also, you arrange the appointments with the parents.
The exact times of the mentoring will be determined with you and the parents of the child. The number of hours also varies depending on which offer is carried out. Normally, about 2-3 h should be scheduled. Mostly, the mentoring takes place for 1 year. However, this can be adjusted individually.
Each mentor is accompanied by an experienced specialist from our facility and, in addition to mentor training, receives regular support and the opportunity to contact the specialist with any questions.
We are a social-diaconal living and service community in the slab construction area. In our daycare center, in our streetwork services and within the framework of our children's program "bärenstark", we offer people a new perspective.
