About the volunteering opportunity
Reading is the key skill. Unfortunately, 40% of elementary school children cannot read fluently enough and do not understand correctly what they read. These children need our individual support! KinderHelden would like to help with a proven and simple reading method. Together with the city of Stuttgart, we are looking for volunteer reading mentors for 20 elementary school children at the Hattenbühlschule in Feuerbach.
Your Tasks
As a volunteer, you will meet with a child at school on a weekly basis, practice reading together, and engage in meaningful recreational activities.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, intermediate German skills are required.
- You enjoy doing something with an elementary school child on a regular basis.
- You have the time to be a mentor for at least one school year.
- You have 2-3 hours a week in the afternoon (excluding vacations) to spend with a child.
- You would like to support a child academically and through meaningful leisure activities.
- You are open for new things, for example for other cultures and ways of life.
- You are reliable, responsible and able to deal with conflicts.
Time required
You will meet with the child weekly at the cooperating elementary school for 2 hours at flexible times.
