About the volunteering opportunity

The Study Compass helps young people from families without academic experience to discover their potential and find an individually suitable educational path after leaving school. Participants receive intensive guidance and support for three years during the transition from school to university or vocational training. Over the course of the support, the young people learn to shape their own educational path and make future-oriented career decisions.

In 2025, more than 1,200 young people took part in the program. Around 4,900 alumni have already successfully completed the program at over 33 locations across Germany. In regional groups, around 20 students work together on their future. The core elements of the support are various workshops to improve self-assessment, to competently evaluate information on fields of study and universities and to take the initiative in planning their own study and career paths. In order to get to know job profiles in practice on site, the sponsored students visit universities and companies.

A team of four volunteer mentors accompanies the group over the entire three-year period - in the last two years of school and in the first year at university or in training - giving advice, providing motivation and shaping the support program together with the young people. Over 200 mentors are currently involved in Study Compass throughout Germany. They receive close support and further training from the office staff. We look forward to your support in Rostock!
