About the volunteering opportunity
Setting up rain barrels in cities is an important tool in implementing climate adaptation measures for existing buildings.
Shedding rainwater on site helps to get the natural water cycle going, and storing it on site eliminates the need for energy-intensive transport to sewage treatment plants.
Plants need rainwater at room temperature. Drinking water is too nutrient-poor and too cold.
In addition, the project helps protect the Spree River from combined sewer discharges.
The more rainwater that can be temporarily stored during heavy rains, the less the water companies will have to discharge the "too much" combined sewer water into the Spree.
With this project, we are helping the city of Berlin and ourselves to implement our climate plans.
Your Tasks
Take over the communication and help to self-help for a concrete interested citizens' initiative.
Together with them and the involved owners, inspect possible installation sites.
Provide application assistance to the street and green space office by advising on visualization and technical necessities.
Assist with the craftsmen's placement and communication among each other.
What's needed
After an introduction and walk-through of an already standing barrel, anyone can take on these tasks.
It takes some patience and understanding for all involved and some stamina for long processes.
Do you like to communicate with people and help with mutual understanding?
We look forward to meeting you :)
Time required
Discuss your time commitment with the citizens' initiative you are supporting.
From experience, the support takes between half a year and a whole year.
But we hope that it will speed up soon, since many citizens are now approaching the offices.
Important notice
It must be fun :)
