About the volunteering opportunity

The residential home for homeless people in Berlin-Marzahn offers approx. 160 places for people in social need, especially for families and vulnerable women who have been victims of domestic violence as well as for people with mobility impairments.

To assist the full-time childcare staff with excursions with children under 6 and elementary school-aged children and their parents, we are looking for volunteers who have time and interest in bringing joy to children from refugee families and children from homeless families. The outings go to the (extended) neighborhood to playgrounds, parks and also occasionally to the Gardens of the World.

Your Tasks

  • You accompany children from the facility on excursions to playgrounds and parks
  • You will help motivate parents to participate on the day of the outing
  • You make sure that the children stay together in the group and you coordinate with the childcare.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, intermediate German skills are required.

  • Patience, empathy and openness for the living situation of the families in the facility
  • Access to children and previous experience with (own) children
  • Prudence and organizational skills
  • ideally access to parents / previous experience in contact with parents, a foreign language
