Properly block, report, and set your own boundaries to make social media a nicer place for yourself and others

What is this commitment about? 

When using social media, we often encounter discriminating hate comments or triggering content. For a more positive and safer experience, as a TikTok and Instagram user, you can use various features to protect yourself and others. This way, you can set your own boundaries, take care of your mental health, and make being on social media much more enjoyable for yourself and others.

What are 5-Minute Commitments?

With our 5-Minute Commitments, we want to inspire you to easily integrate commitment into your everyday life. They are independent of non-profit organizations and allow you to individually get involved with people and nature in your neighborhood.

Your Tasks

You can properly report posts on Instagram and TikTok, block accounts or ban hashtags and keywords. You also have the option to exclude triggering content from your feed.

This not only keeps your own feed clean, but also helps to prevent inappropriate content from gaining further reach.

Report accounts and posts that violate rules, for example, because they are discriminating. Rate posts with "no interest" if you think the content should not gain reach. Additionally, block hashtags, keywords or emoji combinations that may contain violations. 

In addition, you can block keywords that contain your personal triggers, as well as decide how much sensitive content to show you. This way you can make your user experience on social media as pleasant as possible.
 

Instagram:

•  How to block or report accounts

  • go to the account you want to block, click on the three dots in the top right corner and select "block"

• How to report content

  • go to the post you want to report, click on the three dots in the top right corner and then click "report" 

• This is how you rate content with "no interest"

  • click on the three dots in the top right corner and select "no interest"

  • only works for posts on the Explore page

• This is how you block hashtags, keywords and emoji combinations 

  • go to the three dashes at the top right of your profile > "Settings and Privacy" > "Content Suggestions" > "Specific Terms and Expressions" and enter all your keywords, hashtags, etc. that describe the content you no longer want to be shown 

• Decide how much sensitive content you want to be shown 

  • go to the three dashes at the top right of your profile > "Settings and Privacy" > "Content Suggestions" > "Sensitive Content" and set how much sensitive content you want to see.

TikTok:

• This is how you block and report accounts  

  • go to the account you want to block or report, click the share arrow, then click "report" or "block"

• This is how you report content

  • click the share arrow, then click "report"

• This is how you block hashtags, keywords, and emoji combinations 

  • go to the three dashes at the top right of your profile > "Settings and Privacy" > "Content Preferences" > "filter video keywords" and enter all your keywords, hashtags, etc. that describes the content you no longer want displayed on your ForYouPage or by the profiles you follow 

• This is how you rate content with "not interested" 

  • click the share arrow, then click "not interested"

  • note, only works for posts from accounts you don't follow

• Decide how much sensitive content to show you 
  • go to the three dashes at the top right of your profile > "Settings and Privacy" > "Content Preferences" > "restricted mode" and turn it on to show you less "inappropriate" content 

  • but this mode is more like parental control

This project is location independent.

We are a social enterprise from Berlin with a big dream: We want a world in which everyone contributes to a better and more sustainable future according to their possibilities and regardless of time budget, language or previous knowledge. For this purpose, we gather on vostel.de numerous engagement offers from non-profit organizations that are looking for volunteers. By doing this, we show concrete possibilities for action in order to become socially active and would like to motivate above all the younger generations to get involved for a better world.
