About the volunteering opportunity
We rescue food every day, of which we naturally want to pass on as much as possible to people living in poverty in Berlin and dispose of as little as possible. That's why we need your support!
You will first receive a short introduction and then you can get straight down to work together with many other volunteers.

Your Tasks
From the manager to the househusband, a colorful team sorts an equally diverse selection of rescued fruit and vegetables according to the principle of the five senses and in accordance with valid food standards. In addition, food bags and boxes are pre-packed for distribution to Berliners living in poverty and social organizations, and other important tasks are carried out in the Berliner Tafel's central warehouse.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, intermediate German skills are required.
You should be at least 18 years old , have a basic physical fitness, have an interest in dealing with food and have no reservations to come into contact with partly no longer edible goods. In addition, you should be able to proactively approach other employees and ask them for advice when you have already completed your task.
What to bring
We can supply you with the following materials for health and safety at work:
- Medical mask: surgical or FFP2 mask
- Disinfectant
- Disposable gloves
- Safety shoes with steel toe caps
- Plastic bibs, aprons or green Berliner Tafel T-shirts to wear over your clothes as protection.
Please bring clothes that can get dirty and have socks with you, as you will be given safety shoes.
There will be a lunch break during which you can get a warm lunch for 1 € if required :)

Every day, tons of perfectly good, edible food is thrown away in Berlin. Fresh nourishment that could help many Berliners in need if it were distributed properly - something that the Berliner Tafel e.V. has been accomplishing successfully since 1993, For 25 years, Berliner Tafel members and volunteers have been rescuing donated food, sorting it, and delivering it to social and charitable organizations throughout the city.
