About the volunteering opportunity

Are you interested in gardening and do you enjoy guiding children and adults? Then become a volunteer AckerCoach and inspire a young generation for nature and sustainability!

In our award-winning educational programs GemüseAckerdemie and AckerRacker, schoolchildren, daycare centers and kindergarteners grow their own vegetables. They experience directly where the food on their plates comes from and discover nature with all their senses. The goal: a generation that knows what it eats!

At Acker, we support the institutions with training, a wide range of accompanying materials and active help with the planting on site. With a growing community of more than 450 AckerCoaches, we are already working at more than 1,600 schools, daycare centers and kindergartens throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Are you part of it?

Your Tasks

As an AckerCoach, you will accompany schools, daycare centers and kindergartens through the AckerJahr and provide the participating children, teachers and educators with practical knowledge about vegetable cultivation. But don't worry: You don't have to be a vegetable expert to become an AckerCoach!

Your commitment

  • Together with us, you will promote greater appreciation for nature and food and inspire children and educators with your commitment to healthy nutrition and sustainability.

  • On up to four dates per year per learning site, you will guide the educators, children and helpers on site at the beds and impart practical knowledge about vegetable cultivation and the establishment of their field in a playful way.

Your harvest

  • Bright children's eyes, delicious vegetables and unforgettable experiences await you in the field.

  • You will receive a fair expense allowance for your work as an exercise leader (§ 3 No. 26 EStG).

  • In addition to your qualification as an AckerCoach, you can expand your knowledge of vegetable cultivation and sustainable knowledge transfer in our free training courses and workshops.

  • You will receive a written confirmation of your commitment as proof, e.g. for future employers.

  • You become part of a growing community working together for a more sustainable world and can use it to network.

Where?

Acker e. V.

More appreciation for nature and food - this is what Acker e. V. is working for with its award-winning educational programs GemüseAckerdemie and AckerRacker.
Here, children learn where the food on our plates comes from on the school's or daycare center's own farmland.
The non-profit association was founded in 2014 by Dr. Christoph Schmitz. In 2021, the name of the association was changed from Ackerdemia e. V. to Acker e. V.
