About the volunteering opportunity

The residents of an Anker dependency are new to Germany and are only housed there temporarily. We would therefore like to provide them with "short-term mentors" to make it easier for them to settle in.

Would you like to gain an insight into the lives of refugees? Can you speak at least one foreign language well? Then a mentorship is just the thing for you. A mentorship involves regular encounters in everyday life. In concrete terms, this means that you get to know a family or individual who lives in accommodation for refugees and help them to cope with everyday life in Germany.

Your Tasks

Here are some examples of what mentors can do:

  • Practicing German
  • Giving orientation in Munich
  • Talking and listening
  • Joint leisure activities
  • Help with official matters

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity you don't need any German skills.

  • Good knowledge of at least one foreign language (Turkish/French/Spanish/English desirable)
  • Enjoy getting to know new people
  • 1-2 hours per week over a period of at least 3 months
  • An open ear
  • Patience and open-mindedness

Where?

Diakonie München und Oberbayern - Innere Mission München e.V.

"Die Innere Mission" helps people with a migration background. Whether as first aid for refugees and asylum seekers or through useful offers for migrants already living in Munich with permanent residence. The employees of our social and migration services often know the challenges from their own experience. They know where to start in order to begin a new life in a foreign country.
