About the volunteering opportunity
The Good Grief Group is the only English-speaking support group for bereaved people in Berlin. It was set up three years ago to create a safe space for expats who are struggling with a loss far from home and who often find it difficult to find support in their daily lives in Germany.
The group is run by volunteers under professional guidance and is open to all and free of charge for participants.

What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
To prepare and train volunteers for offering grief support, Amublanter Lazarus Hospizdiens provides a Hospice Volunteer Training Course (ehrenamtliche Sterbebegleitung Kurs). This course provides a basis for understanding grief and death, tools for offering emotional support to a dying person and their bereaved family, and the roles and responsibilties of a Hospice Volunteer.
After completing the course, participants can engage in hospice volunteer work and co-facilitation of the Good Grief Group. Volunteers are welcome to participate in one, or both, of these roles.
The training course is taught in German and we recommend that participants start the course at a B2 German level of proficiency. However, all communication in the Good Grief Group is in English.
The training course is offered twice a year in Lazarus Haus Berlin. For more information and to register, please visit this page.
