Our night café in Berlin-Friedrichshain has been an independent facility since 1996. As part of Berlin's cold weather aid, we offer a temporary emergency overnight stay with meals every Thursday evening and early Friday morning. We not only maintain this service during the "cold season" from November to March, but also provide it all year round.
On average, around 60 guests come to eat. Many socially disadvantaged people help us cook, play cards or simply chat. A large hall offers sleeping accommodation for a maximum of 30 people. As a low-threshold facility, we can't offer anyone a way out, but we do try to make time for questions and to provide information about further offers of help. We have a strict ban on alcohol and drugs to ensure a good atmosphere.
More and more people are using our facility not necessarily to stay overnight, but for a variety of reasons, for example to get a hot meal or simply to be 'among people'.
We are looking for one or two people (possibly alternating) to regularly collect food from the food bank on Thursday lunchtime or Thursday afternoon using a more spacious means of transportation (e.g. car). First, the empty food boxes from the previous week would have to be collected from the "Nachtcafe" (Friedrichshain, Samariterstraße), then they would go to the food bank (around 1 pm on Thursdays) to drop off the boxes and pick up new boxes of food. The food would then be taken to the "Nachtcafé".
probably a car driver's license and a suitable means of transport
A tour to pick up the groceries takes around 3 hours.
