About the volunteering opportunity
open.med Munich comprises a medical contact point and a treatment bus as a mobile service for people without health insurance. In addition to general medical consultations, the drop-in center also offers specialist consultations for children, women and people with chronic and mental illnesses. The medical consultations and outreaches are coordinated by full-time volunteer doctors, supported by interpreters and medical students. As part of the social counseling, we (the full-time team) help with (re-)integration into the health insurance and refer further questions to the Munich counseling and support network.
We are now looking for a psychiatrist to support our volunteer medical team. The main task is to hold regular psychiatric consultations once or twice a month at our medical contact point. In addition to the diagnosis and (drug) treatment of traumatized patients, therapy sessions (occasionally supported by interpreters) are part of the main area of responsibility.
Your Tasks
- Diagnostics and drug treatment/therapy for traumatized patients, among others, as well as crisis intervention
- Occasional interpreter-assisted therapy sessions
- Issuing psychiatric certificates or statements where necessary
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
- You have successfully completed further training as a specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy
- You have a high degree of empathy and sensitivity towards people in precarious life situations
- You are experienced in working independently using integrated methods
- You are willing to volunteer once or twice a month
- You identify with the objectives and values of Ärzte der Welt
- Knowledge of residence law is an advantage.
