About the volunteering opportunity
Help to build up a historical archive of a social organization, the Unionhilfswerk. The Unionhilfswerk was founded in 1947 as a result of voluntary work in Berlin, which was devastated at the time, to help hungry, homeless, traumatized and displaced people. Today's Unionhilfswerk association with its 900 volunteers and 3,000 full-time employees in 130 facilities and projects has evolved from this commitment. The historical archive makes it possible to go into more detail about events and anniversaries of facilities, employees and committed individuals and to make the history of Unionhilfswerk and the significance of this commitment visible to this day.
Your Tasks
- Unpacking boxes
- Remove all metal, record, number, label and archive in archive boxes/legal folders
- Record photos of events and (minutes) files as well as annual reports
- Record archive processes in Midosa XML database
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
- A desire to get involved
- Enjoy archive topics and a structured, regular commitment
- Interest in historical events and history
- Interest in familiarizing yourself with the way archives think
- possibly already experience in database applications
- Signature of a code of ethical principles for archivists

On weekdays, during the day, at night
- Once a week for 4 hours on Tuesday, Thursday or Friday
- Time by arrangement e.g. 11 am - 3 pm
- Ideally over 12 to 24 months
