About the volunteering opportunity
At the CleanUp in Berlin, we free the Spree and its banks from plastic waste and other garbage.
Our last Berlin CleanUp of the 2024 paddling season is a special highlight! On FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, on World Cleanup Day, we will join forces with the DKV, the LKV Berlin, the DRV and the BMUV to free the Spree from plastic and other garbage and, together with Environment Minister Steffi Lemke, set an example for clean rivers and less plastic pollution!

We will provide litter collection equipment. If you are unable to take part at short notice, please let us know so that we can reallocate your place.

10. - 10.30 a.m. MEETING POINT next to the House of Cultures
- Check in, distribution of waste collection utensils and explanation of the procedure
- CleanUp briefing
- Getting to know each other & networking

11.00 a.m. Welcome & introduction

- 11.30 a.m. CleanUp Time! Entry and start of the CleanUp Tour on land & on the water
- 12.35 p.m. Meeting at the House of World Cultures, unloading the garbage
- 12.45 p.m Concluding together and discussing the finds

For this volunteering opportunity you don't need any German skills.
You don't need any special skills to take part in the event.
What to bring
Your packing list for the CleanUp event
- functional clothing that can also get dirty
- Gloves/rubber gloves are ideal - if you don't have gloves, we'll provide them!
- Sun protection/headgear
- enough to drink and something to eat for the duration of the event!

Important notice
RULES OF PLAY FOR A SAFE CLEAN UP*
- Obey the traffic rules on the water. We will explain this to you on site
- Protect wildlife! Stay away from animals and keep well clear of nests. Watch where you step.
- Please wear protective gloves when collecting garbage.
- Leave sharp objects (shards, syringes, etc.) lying around or collect them very carefully and store them safely in a container.
- Full bottles can be collected but not opened.
- Disinfect hands.
