About the volunteering opportunity

Can you imagine actively supporting a child or young person, but don't have the opportunity or desire to take a child into your household? Then a sponsorship for children of mentally ill parents may be the right volunteering opportunity for you. Sponsorships offer binding but time-limited support for children and young people who need guidance and a trusted contact person.

PFIFF has been arranging and supporting sponsorships for children and young people with mentally ill parents in Hamburg since 2000. These children are often exposed to particular stress in everyday life. As a sponsor, you are a reliable companion and an important point of contact - you regularly provide a carefree time and are temporarily available as a sponsor family in times of need.

PFIFF accompanies interested people on their way to becoming a sponsor.

Your Tasks

As a godparent, you regularly make time for your godchild - either at home or during joint activities. In doing so, you build up a trusting and reliable relationship with them. While you are there for your sponsored child, professionals look after the parents. In exceptional cases, you may take the child in for a limited period of time, for example if the parents are temporarily unavailable due to a crisis or a hospital stay.

What's needed

Volunteers must be native German speakers.

Time required

Regularly
Approx. 4 hours per week.
On weekdays, on weekends, at night
As a sponsor, you look after the child at fixed times. These times will be agreed with you.

Important notice

PFIFF prepares you specifically for your role as a sponsor through intensive counseling and a seminar. At the beginning of the sponsorship, an agreement is made that defines who is responsible for which tasks and when. During the sponsorship, our experienced specialists will be on hand to support you. An important part of the agreement is also participation in our regular group meetings, where you can exchange ideas with other sponsors. We can also offer you supervision if required.
