About the volunteering opportunity
We support commitment, self-help and neighbourhood initiatives in the field of home care in Marzahn Hellersdorf. In addition to the voluntary visiting service, our work focuses on discussion groups for caring relatives, but also painting groups, neighbourhood help, dance cafés, Qi Qong and other leisure and encounter groups. Get involved in the visiting service (these are not nursing or housekeeping services), give attention and care to people in need of care, thus you also get involved for caring relatives who need relief. We offer you preparation, training and regular exchange with fixed contact persons.
Your Tasks
In your possibilities you would visit people in need of care and their caring relatives once or twice a week for about two hours. During this time, the caregiving relatives can be relieved, the time with the person can be spent in different ways, for example playing together, going for a walk, or even for sports or just to have a chat. We make sure that in the best case there are common interests. The voluntary home visits do not include any domestic or nursing duties.
What's needed
You should possess a high degree of empathy and sensibility, enjoy dealing and the contact with people who are no longer independent and be willing to make long-term and reliable visits. It is also important that you live in Marzahn- Hellersdorf; we have found out that long-term commitment works better if you don't have to travel long distances.

Important notice
Please note that due to the sensitive target group and in order to build up personal relationships, it is important that you spend at least 6 months in the city/commitment.

Most of the people, even people who are in need of care, want to be independent and live in their familiar surroundings. To enable this, the contact centre PflegeEngagement supports people in need of care of all ages and lighten the load of family carers and lonely elderly people living alone. These people are connected with people open to help and volunteer. The most important tasks and targets are improving the living situation of people in need of care, strengthen volunteering structures and reinforce self-help as well as cooperate with the different stakeholders like family members, care facilities and care services.
