About the volunteering opportunity

The women's reading circle is an initiative of women with a migration background who would like to practice reading outside of the German course in a relaxed atmosphere. There are various texts in easier German. After reading together, the content is discussed and questions are asked. The aim is to support the women in expanding their language skills and thus strengthen them in their role as women and often mothers. The women gain more self-confidence, come into contact with other women and can thus participate more in social life. Usually there are between 6 and 10 women present.

Your Tasks

If you would like to get involved in the reading circle, the following activities could become your tasks:

  • Research texts in easy language
  • Record texts as voice messages and send them to the women to listen to and read along with them
  • take part in the reading circle once a week as a German native speaker, talk to the women, make contacts, ...
  • if the women bring their children, child care if necessary
  • Listen to the needs and questions of the women and report back to the project leader
  • develop own ideas and creatively develop the reading circle further

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.

You don't really need much. Here are a few points that would be important:

  • German as mother tongue or C1 level
  • you are a woman*
  • you have fun and enjoy intercultural encounters

Time required

Regularly
Approx. 2 hours per week.

The reading circle usually takes place every Thursday between 12:00 and 13:30.

Important notice

It is about intercultural encounter, empowerment and fun. The reading circle is an encounter project and not a German course. Everyone is allowed to contribute and further develop the offer.
