Schülerpaten Dortmund e.V. arranges and supervises 1:1 educational sponsorships between volunteers and pupils from immigrant families in Dortmund and the surrounding area.

The goal of the sponsorships is to improve educational opportunities through individual and free tutoring, as well as to promote mutual exchange and social cohesion in the long term through diverse encounters - all under the motto "Learning from each other. Understanding each other.

Your Tasks

The honorary office includes a 1:1 - educational sponsorship between the volunteers and the students. The focus is on individual tutoring, which is planned by the volunteers and practiced for at least six months once a week for 60-90 minutes at the sponsored child's home.

At the beginning of the sponsorship, the sponsors first orientate themselves with regard to the current learning content on the homework of the students. At the same time, the godchildren and the parents can be asked in which areas there are increased problems and needs. The tutoring can be designed creatively and according to the needs and wishes of the students, so that the volunteers can work independently and gain a lot of valuable experience.

Thus, the school career of the sponsored child is supported and the godparents are at the same time contact persons for everyday questions or problems. In addition to tutoring, there is the possibility, in consultation with the parents of the sponsored child, to do something together, such as going out for ice cream or buying a game together, whereby the sponsorships are financially supported.

What's needed

Volunteers should be at least 16 years old , speak German at a native level (at least C1 level) and have a command of current spelling and grammar . In addition, they should have at least six months (1x a week for 60-90 minutes) time for the volunteer position .

Time required

The volunteers spend about 60-90 minutes per week for at least six months at their godchildren's homes, where the individual tutoring is carried out. The appointments are arranged individually and independently between the mentor and families.
