About the volunteering opportunity
Our vision: Everyone should be able to afford to read! Behind the Berliner Büchertisch are about 40 people who regularly volunteer with the association or work as employees of the cooperative; hundreds more who join us for a period of time to help out; and many thousands of people and organizations who have supported our work with their book donations.
Why do we do what we do? Because we love books and want them to bring joy to as many people as possible. Because we believe in the principle of sharing and find sustainable reading more meaningful than constantly buying new books. Because reading opens up new worlds, and we want to give children the opportunity to discover them. Because we care deeply about solidarity—a spirit of cooperation that offers meaningful employment opportunities even to those who are often considered “less fortunate.” We fund ourselves solely through the sale of a portion of our books and media and operate without public funding.

Location
Berliner Büchertisch e.V.
Our vision: Reading should be affordable for everyone - independent from his or her age, salary, social status or origin. That’s why the Büchertisch as a non-profit association supports libraries in schools, kindergartens, prisons and many other institutions. We also work in different projects to help children to access books and reading materials.
Moreover we supply various stations for free books throughout Berlin. In creating jobs and apprenticeships for people from various social backgrounds – from former homeless people to young professionals – we try to give people new perspectives.
