About the volunteering opportunity

Together with YFU organizations in our approximately 50 partner countries, our association is committed to intercultural education, democracy education and the assumption of social responsibility by offering young people the opportunity to experience another culture as a member of a host family and to gain new perspectives. Every year, YFU sends up to 1,000 German students abroad and hosts around 500 young people from other countries in Germany. Since YFU Germany was founded in 1957, around 70,000 young people have spent a school year abroad with us. YFU is a non-profit association and recognized as a provider of voluntary youth welfare.

Our association is largely based on the cooperation of our volunteers, who carry out the majority of the daily work. Thereby various tasks arise:

  • Conducting seminars for our participants in order to settle them in the best possible way before, during and after the exchange year,
  • Creating concepts for our events,
  • Taking care of our host families,
  • Participation in public relations,
  • Organization of events,
  • Supervision and training of our volunteers.

Your Tasks

We are looking for interested people for each of the above-mentioned areas of responsibility. You can try out all areas and find your own focus, but of course you can also be active in several.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.

We are happy if you bring the following skills or would like to develop them:

  • Openness,
  • Communication skills,
  • Ability to work in a team,
  • Willingness to learn.

We will take you by the hand and teach you the knowledge and skills you need for the various tasks. Even after that, there is always the opportunity to develop further, to take on more responsibility and to learn more.

Time required

You can divide your time for your commitment very freely, because we offer projects and events with different time requirements and on all days. The time required ranges from a few hours to several days. You can also control the frequency of your involvement yourself; there are long-term projects and also individual events on single days.
