Find your Cleanup around World Cleanup Day on 20.09.24

The World Cleanup Day will take place on September 20, 2024. On this day, volunteers around the world get involved in what they describe as the “world’s largest bottom-up movement to eliminate environmental pollution and plastic waste”. Last year, in Germany alone, more than 430,000 people collected around 1.9 tons of waste from the natural environment in over 9,000 clean-ups, thus setting an example for a clean and liveable environment. Worldwide, 19 million people in over 190 countries took part in the day.

If you would like to lend a hand in your city this year, then take a look at the cleanups we have selected for you here. There are many other opportunities to join a cleanup campaign on World Cleanup Day at vostel.de and WorldCleanupDay.de – here you will find cleanups throughout Germany as well as the opportunity to register your own campaign.

Your vostel.de team wishes you lots of fun tidying up!

A little tip: you can, of course, arrange to meet up with friends to collect independently of World Cleanup Day or simply incorporate it into your everyday life. You can find a little inspiration here in our 5-minute commitment.

Munich | 2. Garbage Chamionship by rehab republic

Saturday, 21/09/2024 | 10am-6pm

As part of World Cleanup Day, rehab republic is once again calling on all Munich districts to clear the city of cigarette butts, crown caps, disposable cups and the like on Saturday 21 September. From Aubing to Fürstenried, from Moosach to Giesing, from Hadern to Riem – Munich’s neighbourhoods compete against each other – which team collects the most rubbish and becomes Munich’s next Cleanup Champion?

All participating districts and the corresponding meeting points and times can be found on the website www.cleanup-munich.de/muellmeisterschaft.

On the day itself, please bring some gardening gloves, old bags or similar. All teams will also have some rubbish tongs and gloves to borrow.

Berlin | Get involved: Cigarette butt free zone – Clean Up!

Monday, 23/09/2024 | 5-7 pm

The Steglitz-Zehlendorf volunteer agency would like to join forces with the neighborhood assistance on 23.09. They are organizing a themed clean-up with an information campaign on the consequences of cigarette butts for people, animals and nature.

Around 106 billion cigarettes are smoked in Germany every year. Around 2/3 of these cigarettes are carelessly discarded and end up on the street or in the countryside. The filters are very harmful to people, animals and the environment. That’s why this day is not just about collecting but also educating and informing people. Please make sure you register at least one day in advance.

Düsseldorf | Get involved: Support the #fillthebottle project

frequently

The youngcaritas “garbage collection” project offers young volunteers the opportunity to stand up for their environment and climate protection. The #fillthebottle campaign is part of the project, in which the volunteers try to fill plastic bottles with cigarette butts lying around and thus do something good for the environment and their fellow human beings. One cigarette butt pollutes around 40 liters of groundwater, so you can make a big difference.
