About the volunteering opportunity
Over 150 million people worldwide need glasses but cannot afford them. Children can't learn, adults can't work and provide for their families. We want to change that. EinDollarBrille e.V. was founded in 2012 by Martin Aufmuth and has already received many awards. Today, EinDollarBrille is active in eight project countries. Worldwide, about 400 employees, including more than 200 volunteers in Germany, are committed to our common goal with great personal dedication. You can find out more at: www.EinDollarBrille.de
Your Tasks
Your tasks are as diverse as our team:
- Planning, implementing and following up on events at venues such as markets, educational institutions, churches, congresses and trade fairs (as part of the team you will learn everything you need to know, our checklists ensure that everything is thought of)
- Giving talks at clubs such as Rotary and Lions, educational institutions and companies (our experienced speakers will introduce you to this using sample light-picture talks)
- Looking after donation boxes that are set up at opticians, eye doctors, stores and restaurants, for example. Also, acquiring new supporters who want to set up a donation box is an interesting task
- Presenting how the OneDollarGlasses are made in our project countries (interested people can do a training to become a glasses bender)
- Maintaining contact with the press, event organizers and major donors
- A variety of administrative tasks can be taken on
- In addition, there are numerous supra-regional tasks and also a limited number of deployment opportunities abroad (starting from a 3-month deployment period)
What's needed
You should bring with you:
- Ability to work in a team and willingness to learn, because we welcome everyone, whether still in training, fully in professional life or already retired
- Commitment and reliability, from a time budget of 3 hours per week you can take on fixed tasks in the team.
- Knowledge of MS-Office and foreign languages is necessary for some tasks

More than 950 million people in the world need glasses but are unable to afford them. Children cannot learn, parents cannot work and take care of their families. The OneDollarGlasses consist of a light, flexible spring steel frame. They are manufactured and sold by the local people themselves. The material costs: around 1 US dollar.
