About the volunteering opportunity
In the Fechenheimer Pflegegärtchen, we are currently working with the Frankfurter Verband e.V. to create a 1,200 m2 community garden with vegetable cultivation and biodiversity around a retirement home. It is a great, intergenerational project in which the project managers are happy to have helping hands.
The pilot project is currently in its second season and there is a lot to do. As a participant, you will learn a lot about natural gardening, organic vegetable growing in the city and biodiversity.

Your Tasks
In the large community garden, support is needed for gardening as well as for building and creating garden elements. What exactly will be done on the day depends on the number of people, the weather and the work to be done in the garden and will therefore be finalized shortly before the date. The following activities are possible:
- Maintenance of vegetable beds such as weeding and wheelbarrowing compost to the beds
- Maintenance of a Benjes hedge made of dead wood (garden element for more biodiversity)
- Sowing green manure
- Spreading wood chippings to maintain the paths
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, basic German skills are required.
No special previous knowledge or skills are required. Be open to new things, physical work and spending time together in the garden :-)
What to bring
Please bring the following things with you on the day of your assignment:
- Gardening / work gloves (if you want to use your own, otherwise we have some on site)
- Clothes suitable for the weather that can get dirty
- Buffet contribution for the joint picnic
- Your own drinking bottle, as this is easier to carry than a cup
During the time together, we want to take a break and have a picnic together on site, to which all participants will bring something themselves to create a buffet. We will provide coffee, water and tea on site. We cannot provide food ourselves. Crockery and cutlery are available.
