About the volunteering opportunity
We are looking for committed students and high school students for our ikimiz mentoring.
ikimiz means "the two of us" and stands for the team relationship that our mentors and their mentees have. Our mentors are called Ağabey or Abla, which means "big brother" and "big sister" in Turkish - and that is exactly what our mentors are to their mentees.
Our mentors are of Turkish origin, are on their way to graduating from high school, or are already studying or training. They accompany their protégés for at least one year, both with support in school matters and with joint leisure activities. Due to their own biographies, they are role models for their mentees and show them how to master challenges in their lives. The positive effects of the program are confirmed by effectiveness research, e.g. by Phineo. At the same time, the mentors are our scholarship holders.
Your Tasks
Each mentor accompanies a mentee for at least one school year, supports them in school matters and undertakes leisure activities together. Here, everything is possible, a visit to the cinema or the theatre, joint bolting or other sporting excursions. Our Ağabeys and Ablas meet their mentees once a week for 2-3 hours. They keep a monthly online diary about their joint learning and excursions.
There are also regular workshops for the Ağabeys and Ablas, where they can get tips on working with the mentees and exchange ideas with each other. In addition, the Ağabeys and Ablas receive mentoring from different personalities from our DTF network, where they are supported on their way into professional life.
What's needed
As an Ağabey or Abla, you enjoy working with children, are open and sensitive in dealing with others, and are keen to pass on your own experience. In addition, you are of Turkish descent, from the Stuttgart region, and are currently completing your A-levels, studies or training.
