About the volunteering opportunity
Family life requires a high degree of organization and flexibility. Sometimes there is a lack of adequate relief options. The Institute for Social and Cultural Work (ISKA gGmbH) organizes family sponsorships. Volunteers support families in everyday life, around the birth or generally when there are no contact persons for the families and especially the children.
Together with a family sponsor, families can, for example, spend free time, go on excursions, get to know important contact points and places in the city and talk about everyday issues. There are different areas of focus, such as learning support or around the birth of a new family member when a family needs to reorganize itself.

Your Tasks
The tasks of the mentorship include, for example
- organizing leisure activities together,
- offering help and advice in everyday life,
- helping with homework and school matters,
- support with visits to the authorities,
- accompany them to visits to the doctor,
- have an open ear for the family,
- give them time to breathe, e.g. by looking after the children.
The tasks can be very individual and also depend on what volunteers bring with them and how they would like to get involved. This is discussed together with the family and the full-time volunteers.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
The volunteers should be at least 18 years old and enjoy working with families and babies.
A police certificate of good conduct is required for volunteering. We support you with the application (we have a template that can be used).
Time required
The mentorship should take place once a week for 2-3 hours. The exact time frame can be discussed flexibly between the family and you.
Where?
ISKA Nürnberg
The Institute for Social and Cultural Work (ISKA) is active in the fields of innovation management, organisational consulting and practice research. Innovations are not only developed theoretically and conceptually, but also tested and implemented. ISKA operates its own facilities in Nuremberg and Fürth.
We would like to launch a voluntary counselling service for authorities and offices for families around the birth of a new family member.
