The aim of our Hispi LAB (Learning for Training and Work) service is to enable trainees and vocational students to keep up with the content of vocational school and to successfully pass the theoretical part of the final exams.
"Hispi" stands for "Help with Linguistic Integration", founded as an independent citizens' initiative in 2015 out of the need to provide refugees with low-threshold access to the German language.
Since January 2018, "HISPI" has been an independent business division of Sophia::Akademie gGmbH, which has been in existence since 2008. It is a non-profit organisation in North Rhine-Westphalia that supports development processes in the education sector in a sustainable and resource-saving way.
Language is the most important asset for the newcomers. Many of the refugees and migrants were (and are) unable to afford a language course at a commercial organisation or are not entitled to an integration course. "HISPI" closed this gap and continues to do so today with the commitment of volunteers. Since its foundation, "HISPI" has accompanied more than 2000 people in the use of the German language in only seven and a half years through the dedicated support of more than 400 citizens.
The committed volunteers are supposed to assist the participants in a 1:1 tutoring situation with the respective homework or the school material to be reworked.
They will clarify the language of the assignment, discuss and, if necessary, correct the language and content of solutions already prepared, address any mathematical difficulties and, if necessary, work on gaps, and also clarify technical problems from politics, economics and the foreign languages taught.
The volunteers should (if possible) be German native speakers or speak German very well.
We would like them to have an affinity with the target group of people with a refugee or migration background.
The preparation is not complicated, as the participants bring the material to be covered with them. Any topic can be approached with common sense and interest.
The tutoring offer takes place on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. The commitment is possible on one or more days.
