About the volunteering opportunity
Learning, laughing and growing together, giving a child undivided attention, accompanying them and strengthening their self-esteem - for the non-profit organization KinderHelden we are looking for volunteer mentors to support primary school children with difficult starting conditions in Mannheim, Ludwigshafen or Walldorf on their way.

Your Tasks
You support your mentee at school in terms of language skills, reading and arithmetic or learning and working behavior. It's also about spending free time together, which opens up new perspectives for the child.
Your first meetings take place at school. Once you have established a basis of trust, you can also meet outside of school in public spaces - for example in libraries or youth centers.
The 1:1 meetings are supplemented by group activities that we organize for our tandems.
The KinderHelden Campus gives you access to workshops and webinars, so that you can continue your training and provide your mentee with the best possible targeted support.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
You don't need any previous teaching experience, as we will prepare you for your new role in a preparatory workshop. We will also provide you with individually tailored learning materials and tips for child-friendly activities. Throughout the year, you will receive pedagogical support and training from full-time employees who will be available to answer any questions you may have.
Time required
Ideally, you should have time to meet with a child about once a week for around two hours in the afternoon during the school year to support and strengthen them individually.
Important notice
Before your volunteering begins, we will get to know you in a personal interview (lasting approx. 45 minutes) via video call. This is followed by the introductory workshop as a self-study program and a webinar. We also need an extended police clearance certificate from you.
