About the volunteering opportunity
This is an offer from the Lesewelt organization:
Lesewelt Berlin e.V. has been organizing regular reading aloud sessions with the help of volunteer readers for children aged four to twelve throughout Berlin since 2000 and hopefully also (again) in Lichtenberg from November. The association is considered a pioneer among Germany's reading aloud initiatives. The aim is to awaken the children's love of reading, improve their language skills, inspire their imagination, promote their concentration and impart knowledge. The focus is on educationally disadvantaged children with and without a migration background. The aim of the reading sessions is to increase their chances of a good education and thus make an important contribution to equal opportunities in education.

Your Tasks
The aim of the Lesewelt reading sessions is to awaken the children's love of reading. This involves reading, listening, laughing and explaining. Volunteers should be able to schedule at least one hour per week, plus travel to and from the reading session, and participate regularly. Only then is it possible to build valuable relationships with the children. You should enjoy reading aloud and enjoy interacting with children. You also need patience, reliability, a sense of responsibility and an interest in and openness towards other cultures.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, intermediate German skills are required.
Interested parties should ideally complete the online questionnaire at https://lesewelt-berlin.org/index.php?article_id=30. You are then invited to a personal interview at the Lesewelt office, where a trial appointment is usually arranged. This gives volunteers the opportunity to gain their own impression before deciding on a longer-term commitment.
