About the volunteering opportunity
Does the Düsseldorfer Platt still exist? The way it was perhaps spoken 100 years ago, it hardly exists today. Today we would rather speak of dialect, which, depending on the age of the speaker and their origin, still uses many words of Platt, but otherwise refers more to the tone of voice in pronunciation. In Düsseldorf today, unfortunately, there is no deep-rooted willingness to speak and cultivate Platt.
In order to save at least some of our native language, a small group has formed in the Zentrum Plus in Düsseldorf Holthausen, which is still trying to maintain interest in Platt. There they rehearse sketches (mostly written by themselves), recite stories (Dönekes) and poems and also sing songs. We find our audience in other centers Plus, in the Bürgerhaus Reisholz as part of a series called "Kokolores" (with other greats of Düsseldorf dialect, among others), at clubs, in retirement homes and many more. We experience the joy and gratitude of people for our voluntary work.
