In the winter months from November to April, the Berlin City Mission opens a total of 3 emergency overnight shelters. Many people who would otherwise have to spend the night outside in the cold get shelter, food, clothing, medical care, counselling and spiritual support here.
Activity: Your assignment will take place in the evening. The field of activity is varied. For example: You will assist with food serving and preparation and in the scullery. Or you create the evening together with the guests by a devotion, common conversations or playing games.
Prerequisite: generally of full age. You must speak German or English for this volunteer position. If you have any pre-existing health conditions, we recommend that you consult with the facility management in order to protect yourself. Volunteering is not possible in case of pregnancy.
What we are looking for: You are open to the living situations of homeless people. You keep an overview and like to work in a team. You are reliable and like to take responsibility. The most important thing: You have an open ear for our guests!
It is important to us that we treat every guest as an equal. We are especially happy to welcome volunteers who are close to the Christian faith or who are Christians themselves. However, this attitude is not expected.
Expected attitude: You are convinced that every human being is given an inalienable dignity. You respect other religions and worldviews.
"Berliner Stadtmission" is an independent institution under the guardianship of the protestant church Berlin-Brandenburg-schlesische Oberlausitz.
