What is this commitment about?
The birds are chirping, spring is coming. However, wild birds in urban and industrial areas increasingly have difficulties throughout the year to find enough food for themselves and their young birds, which is due to changes in climate and environmental conditions. By feeding wild birds, you help native species to get through the year well-fed and at the same time have the opportunity to observe the small fliers at close range.

What are 5-Minute Commitments?
With our 5-Minute Commitments, we want to inspire you to easily integrate commitment into your everyday life. They are independent of non-profit organizations and allow you to individually engage for people and nature in your neighborhood.
Install a feeding station for wild birds in your neighborhood, your garden or on your balcony.
Whether you prefer to set up a bird feeder or hang up the classic tit dumplings is up to you and your resources.
Make sure to feed the birds regularly and to inform yourself about which food is suitable for which birds, at what time of year. To learn how to easily make your own birdseed, visit the NABU site at this link. Instructions for building a bird feeder are available here.

To set up the feeder, no special prior knowledge is necessary. If you want to build a bird feeder yourself, basic craftsmanship skills may be helpful.
Depending on how elaborately designed your feeding station should be, your commitment can last from a few minutes to 1-2 hours. You should also take a moment to inform yourself about species-appropriate food.
This project is location independent.
We are a social enterprise from Berlin with a big dream: We want a world in which everyone contributes to a better and more sustainable future according to their possibilities and regardless of time budget, language or previous knowledge. For this purpose, we gather on vostel.de numerous engagement offers from non-profit organizations that are looking for volunteers. By doing this, we show concrete possibilities for action in order to become socially active and would like to motivate above all the younger generations to get involved for a better world.
