About the volunteering opportunity
In the mentoring project of our engagement office MARIE, people from Berlin who want to support other people find each other. We are looking for committed people who accompany refugees or other groups of people with support needs and make it easier for them to arrive in a new environment. Personal contact at eye level helps people to get to know each other better and to learn from each other. Prejudices can be reduced and replaced by common experiences.
We offer you: individual support and advice, a regular training program, joint recreational events, access to free cultural events, issuance of certificates for your commitment, and, if necessary, reimbursement of (BVG) travel expenses.
Your Tasks
Volunteers are needed for various activities at an emergency shelter for refugees in Britz (Buschkrugallee). The residents mainly come from Turkey, Syria, Afghanistan, Moldova and Ukraine. We are particularly looking for people who would like to provide (childcare) activities for children, both in the morning and in the late afternoon. There is plenty of scope.
You can also support individuals or families from the accommodation as part of our mentoring project; learning German, spending time together or accompanying them on visits to the authorities. Foreign language skills such as English, Turkish or Russian would be an asset but are not essential.
There is a volunteer coordinator as a contact person and volunteers are already active on site.
