About the volunteering opportunity
We are looking for committed people who would like to use their time to help others cope with everyday life in Germany.
Our volunteers meet with families or individuals on a regular basis and support them in their daily lives, with the German language and by encouraging their participation in social life in Berlin.
Your Tasks
Everyday support: Helping families with everyday challenges, e.g. accompanying them to appointments.
Cultural insights: You share your knowledge about the social and cultural life in Berlin and support the families to actively participate.
Help with administrative procedures: You support families in their dealings with the authorities and give them confidence in dealing with bureaucratic procedures.
Contact person for questions: You are a trusted person to whom the families can turn with questions and uncertainties about life in Germany.
Learning support: You help the families learn the German language and thus contribute to their linguistic integration.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, intermediate German skills are required.
Empathy and openness to other people :-)
Time required
The times are coordinated individually and according to need and availability. On the whole, you can expect an average time commitment of 1-2 hours per week.
Important notice
other languages still help, but mainly German.
Where?
Malteser Hilfsdienst e.V. Berlin
"...because proximity counts" is the guiding principle that drives us to provide help where it is needed. In Berlin, we are there where we are needed with over 1,000 volunteers, and throughout Germany with over 52,000 volunteers: in disaster control, in integration, for lonely, elderly and sick people, for children and young people, for the dying and the grieving.
