About the volunteering opportunity

ParticipAid is a programme run by ArrivalAid that provides a safe space for refugee children up to the age of 12 to learn, be creative and build community. The programme takes place directly in the accommodation centres, so that the children are supported where they live. In their familiar surroundings, they can thrive, discover new words, tell stories and improve their language skills through play.

Many of the children did not attend school regularly due to their experiences as refugees. It is therefore even more important to give them the opportunity to develop their language and learning skills in a lively and motivating environment. With your support, they can not only expand their knowledge, but also gain confidence and make new friends.

Your Tasks

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who enjoy supporting children in their development - be it in literacy, numeracy or through creative and playful activities.

If you would like to learn and play with the children and give them a bit of normality, we look forward to your support!

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
The most important requirement for volunteering is that you enjoy working with children. Your positive attitude will encourage curiosity and a love of reading and writing. Time to listen, openness and empathy, especially for children who have experienced severe emotional stress due to the situation in their home country or while fleeing, are a matter of course for you.

A social education qualification or experience of working with children and/or children from a migrant background is not required. German language skills at B1 level are desirable.

Formal requirements are a minimum age of 18 years and an extended police clearance certificate.
