About the volunteering opportunity

Attending school in a foreign country is a major challenge for many children and young people with a refugee background: New surroundings, new language, new rules, difficult living conditions! Often no one at home can help them with their homework.
The aim of homework supervision is therefore to support children at school and thus create the best possible conditions for successful integration.

If you enjoy working with young people and have a good dose of empathy and patience, we look forward to getting to know you!

Your Tasks

Regular support with homework and learning German for children of primary school age. The group size can be determined individually (1-4 children)

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
  • Empathy for the difficult living conditions of the children
  • Willingness/ability to support children with their homework who may not yet speak German well

Time required

Regularly
Approx. 2 hours per week.
On weekdays, during the day, at night
Homework supervision can take place in the afternoon, after the children's school attendance and would have to be arranged individually. In general, a start between 15:30-16:30 is suitable for a duration of approx. 1.5 hours.

We are looking for people who would like to come by once a week at a fixed time to support our kids! More is of course always possible =D

The refugee shelter Am Beelitzhof will be operated on a temporary basis (probably for three months) from June 2020. At the end of June 2020, the first residents will move into the MUF (Modular Accommodation for Refugees). In total, the MUF has room for 477 persons. The residents come from different countries of origin.
